A delicious New York Style Pizza Sauce can be made with just a few simple ingredients. The recipe combines canned tomatoes, dried herbs, garlic, olive oil, and basil to create a flavorful and well-balanced sauce that elevates your homemade pizzas.
Matt Lott
1 (28-ounce) can San Marzano tomatoes
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1 tablespoon granulated sugar
2 teaspoons dried oregano
2 cloves garlic
10 fresh basil leaves
1 small yellow onion, halved
1 tablespoon unsalted butter
Combine all ingredients except the onion and butter in a medium-sized mixing bowl. Blend with an immersion blender until smooth.
Pour the tomato purée into a medium saucepot. Add the onion to the sauce and cook on low for 1 hour, stirring occasionally.
After 1 hour, use tongs to remove the onion from the sauce and discard. Add the butter and stir until completely melted.
This sauce can be kept refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
